Special Projects and More (SPAM): We will be learning the Basket Case Quilt pattern. This pattern requires two strips of print fabric and one strip background to produce two quilt blocks. 9:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m., Cherry Valley Library.

Quilt Show registration forms are due NO LATER than April 6th. Turn your form in at the afternoon or evening guild meeting or mail to Robin Gausebeck. Remember, your quilt does not need to be finished by April 6th, but the picture you include with the registration form needs to identify the quilt by color and pattern. Click HERE to download and print the form.

Cheap Trick challenge quilts are also due on April 6th. Turn your quilt into Cindy Larsen at the afternoon or evening meeting. If you will not be at the meeting, please call Cindy to arrange for drop off/pick up.

We have several quilt show volunteer slots left to fill. Most shifts are 2 hours and there are many sit-down jobs if you can’t stand for long periods. Sign up at the April 6th guild meeting or contact Colleen Magee.

Thursday, July 7th: 

Mini-Morning Workshop: We will be getting ready for Christmas with a Poinsettia Table topper. It is in the style of a Dresden Plate and is a pattern from Robert Kauffman. You can make it in all reds for Christmas or any colors that you would like. The topper is 26” across. Plan to bring your sewing machine and basic sewing kit. Please be sure to bring a scissors that you can cut fabric with and a 6” ruler. If you would like do some cutting before the workshop, cut one strip from each of the 3/8 yard pieces , 12” wide and the length of the fabric. A cutting mat will be provided at the workshop. 9:30-11:30, Bethesda Covenant Church

  • (3) coordinating prints, 3/8 yard each (3) different color prints or (3) prints all the same color, but different tones

1:00: “Design Principles for Quilters”. More and more quilters are considering themselves textile artists. Just as with any of the more traditionally recognized art forms, their makers need to be aware of and have some facility with the elements and principles of design and including value, line, space, balance, unity, etc. This slide lecture is an introduction to those design essentials which we will examine embodied in quilts.

7:00: “Finding Your Voice”. An overview of the steps to discover and develop your own personal style with a trunk show of Lorraine’s work that follows her journey in finding her personal voice.


Friday, July 8th:

Workshop: “Getting a Handle on Design Principles”. No matter which visual art form you choose, learning to use the formal elements of composition (color, value, scale, etc.) is important. Regardless of the style of quiltmaking in which you express yourself – traditional or innovative – come to this non-threatening, paper and glue stick workshop and explore the design elements you need to make all your good craftmanship worthwhile.
