On December 4, 2014, WTVO aired a news segment about our Littlest Angel Project. Click HERE to view the video.

The Littlest Angel Project began in April 2011 when Winnebago County Coroner Sue Fiduccia visited a guild meeting and spoke about the need for tiny quilts to be available at the Coroner’s office so that when baby’s bodies are released by the Coroner, the body can be transferred in one of these “comfort” quilts. Sizes needed are: 18”x18”, 12”x12”, 24”x24” and even up to 36”x36”. Quilts should be either pink or blue. Flannel can be used for these quilts. No batting is needed—only a top and backing. Nora Hamidi will be collecting the quilts. If you have any questions or would like to become involved with this project, call Nora at 815-639-1347 or fill out the Contact Us form.

Wow!  You really came through at the Sew-In last month.  Approximately 40 people completed 490 stockings.  Our monthly sew-at-homers have returned 486 so far.  The SFS (Stockings for Soldiers) mini-group prepared stocking parts for the sew-in, stocking kits for the sew-at-homers and, in addition, completed more than 100 stockings.  A few individuals turned in other stockings, and we had some left over from last year.  As more stockings are completed by the sew-at-homers, we will surely make our goal of 1500.

Our next step is to obtain more stocking stuffers.  All items on the Soldiers’ Wish List are needed–especially razors, nutrition bars, individual packages of snacks, tooth brushes, tooth paste, and lip balm (click HERE for complete list).  We also need front pages of used Christmas cards in time to write a message on them.

A big thank you to all who have helped with our stockings in any capacity.  A special thanks goes to our SFS mini-group, and our sew-at-homers who have worked so faithfully every month.

Mark you calendars: We will be filling the stockings on Friday, November 14th at 4:30 p.m. and on Saturday, November 15th at 8:30 a.m. at the Masonic Lodge #102, 6780 North Second Street, Loves Park.

Message from Nora Hamidi …

When we started this project in April 2011, we needed 18-20 quilts a year, but now need more since Winnebago County Coroner Sue Fiduccia has been distributing them to surrounding counties, even sent to southern Illinois.  She mentions our project at every meeting she attends and has had many other Doctors or Coroners ask how to get this service in their communities.  Please if you know other quilters in other states or cities, tell them about our “Littlest Angel Project” as there IS a great need.  I will be doing my best to get the word out amongst other areas since I have contacts in Iowa, Ohio and Georgia.  Also am trying to get 5 minutes to tell a captive audience on the November Quilting Cruise that Rita Brdicka and I will be attending.  At least I will take a poster that will tell about us.  Any help we can get is greatly appreciated.  Thanks.
