The 30th Anniversary Recycle Challenge has been extended until March, so if you still want to make one or make more to be displayed at the quilt show, bring them for show & tell and turn them into Cindy. I hope to get pictures of the ones collected at the last meeting posted on the website within the next week. I’ve been on vacation and am trying to catch up on everything!

Guidelines:

• Finished size: 6” square (this includes any embellishments added to the edges).
• 3 layers, quilted (it’s usually easier to quilt first and then add the items).
• The number 30 must be depicted somewhere on the square (30 items, the number 30, be creative).
• Made entirely out of recycled items and supplies you already have (you cannot buy anything to include in the square).
• Label on back with name and list of items used.
• Deadline: August 5th meeting, bring to meeting for show and tell, I will collect the squares, take pictures and post on the website, and keep them to display at the quilt show in May. If you won’t be at the August  meeting, give to a friend to bring or make arrangements to get it to me before the meeting.
• Make as many as you want.
• Don’t worry about what the back looks like … it’s usually a challenge to figure out how to attach unusual items and be neat at the same time!
• Be creative and have fun!

Presentation of the airport quilt will be Thursday, April 8th at 11:00 a.m. at the Rockford airport. The challenge quilts will be on display from 11:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. If you cannot make it to the 11:00 a.m. presentation, please plan to stop in before 7:00 to view the 50 challenge quilts.

“Window Seat, Please” challenge is due April 1st. You can bring your piece to the next meeting or make arrangements with Judy Mullen to get it to her by the deadline. It must be 14 inches wide and 20 inches long, three layers quilted, but NO border (please see the newsletter for more details). Judy will be adding the border, and she would like to know by March 1st if you are planning to make one so she knows how many borders to make.

The guild will be presenting a large quilt to Rockford Airport and displaying the challenge quilts on Thursday, April 8th, at 11:00 a.m., at the Rockford Airport. Please plan to attend even if you are not participating in the challenge quilt project.
