The Rockford Park District has asked the Guild to come out to Lockwood Park and sew on Saturday, May 22nd. They are having Animal Mania from 10-4.  A few of us went out last year and it was a lot of fun.  If anyone would like to come out and just work on hand stitching for either an hour or two or all day that would be great.  You can also bring any quilts you would like to display.  We have people ask questions and watch what we do.  We will be inside at the Trailside Center.  Any one interested can contact Julie Cucccinelli by email or by phone 815-332-5212.

Guidelines:

  • Finished size: 6” square (this includes any embellishments added to the edges).
  • 3 layers, quilted (it’s usually easier to quilt first and then add the items).
  • The number 30 must be depicted somewhere on the square (30 items, the number 30, be creative).
  • Made entirely out of recycled items and supplies you already have (you cannot buy anything to include in the square).
  • Label on back with name and list of items used.
  • Deadline: August 5th meeting, bring to meeting for show and tell, I will collect the squares, take pictures and post on the website, and keep them to display at the quilt show in May. If you won’t be at the August  meeting, give to a friend to bring or make arrangements to get it to me before the meeting.
  • Make as many as you want.
  • Don’t worry about what the back looks like … it’s usually a challenge to figure out how to attach unusual items and be neat at the same time!
  • Be creative and have fun!

Contact me (Cindy Larsen) if you have any questions.

The last flight to Paducah has safely landed in Rockford a few minutes ago. I’m sure we all have great stories from the trips and if you’d like to share them on the website, please click the Response link at the top right of this post.

Click HERE to read an interview with Judy Mullen in the West Kentucky Star. I searched online for a TV report, but couldn’t find anything. If you have found a TV report or other newspaper article, please let me know.

Tomorrow I’ll be posting the pictures I took. If you have any you want to add to the site, please email them to me.

Important info from Judy:

Hi Everybody, Can you believe it?  We’re flying to Paducah !!!  They are all excited we are flying in.  I want to remind everyone to check their ticket confirmation, especially the time we need to be there. Please arrive at RFD by 6 AM to check in at the counter.  Then to my table to pick up your ticket packet. If you have not yet paid the $30 for the packet, please be prepared to do so before boarding the plane.   I prepared the packets so you can read over them while we are in the air and have an idea where you want to start.   We are scheduled to take off at 7 AM and arrive in Paducah at 8.   Remember to bring your photo ID with you.  And your camera. You are allowed to take pictures.      Also, we cannot bring umbrellas on board the airplane.   Please try and find one of those foldup ponchos you can carry in your totebag in case it rains. You know, the ones you see at the dollar stores, etc.   The airport will provide umbrellas in Paducah as we deplane on the air stair  but I don’t think they are providing 100 so everyone can have one for the day.        See you later!!!          Judy
