Fabric: You can select any fabrics you wish. Having the value range and
motif variety indicated is most important. I prefer tone on tones
small prints rather than solids because they provide more visual
interest to the piece. Mix in florals if you wish. If you have more
fabric choices, bring them.

½ yd. Medium value stripe ( center pinwheel )
fat quarter med. value tone on tone or small print to blend with stripe
( lining for pinwheels)
fat quarter deep dark or light, so there is contrast to your pinwheel fabric
( background for center pinwheel block)
2/3 yd frame fabric This should contrast with background for pinwheels
( If you selected a light background, use dark for the frame. If you
selected dark background, use light medium for frame.)
½ yd for corner cut out area in frame. There must be contrast with your frame
fabric. ( If your frame is dark, select a medium light. If your frame is
light medium, select a dark.)
½ yd for outer borders. These borders must contrast with the frame. ( If frame
is dark medium, select a light border. If frame is dark, select a medium
to light medium for border.)
Misc. – fat 1/8 or ¼ pieces. These fabrics should be darker value than outer but
they must blend with other fabrics.

I think if you look at the two photos, you can see the concept. The applied motifs on the outside border could be of all different fabrics if you wish to use scraps. You would need
6 “ square for each.
